Dentist Continues GKAS Involvement That First Began In High School

The ADA News (1/14, Versaci) reported that Dr. Theressa Eliscar-Hewett, 29, first volunteered at the Nassau County Give Kids A Smile (GKAS) event in Long Island, New York “as a high school student while taking a dental assisting course at Joseph M. Barry Career & Technical Education Center.” Dr. Eliscar-Hewett continued to volunteer at the GKAS event and others, and today volunteers as a dentist. Volunteering at GKAS events not only cemented her interest in dentistry, but also “helped her make professional connections that led to her career today.” The article explained, “She is currently an associate in the Long Island dental practice of Dr. David J. Miller, whom she met while volunteering with Give Kids A Smile through her technical school.” GKAS will hold this year’s national kickoff event on Friday, Feb. 7, at the Indiana University School of Dentistry in Indianapolis.
