More Than 9,000 Health Care Workers Test Positive For Coronavirus As Of April 9, CDC Says

Watchful waiting - Experts predict that covid-19 will spread more ...

The Washington Post (4/14, Cha) says more than 9,000 health care workers had tested positive for coronavirus as of April 9, according to a report from the CDC released on Tuesday. According to the report, “They are mostly white, female, and in their 40s,” and while “most were not sick enough to be hospitalized, 27 died.”

USA Today (4/14, Rodriguez, Alltucker) reports, “The CDC conceded the report’s findings underestimate the number of cases among health care workers because of uneven reporting across the country,” and “while in some states only 3% of” patients with coronavirus were health care workers, “the number was closer to 11% in those with more complete reporting.”

The ADA News (4/8, Burger) reported previously that in a video released April 8, a panel of ADA experts “answered nearly 20 questions that member dentists have asked” regarding “the Association’s interim guidance for minimizing the risk of COVID-19 transmission while performing emergency and urgent dental care.” The ADA also offers an overview document, Summary of ADA Guidance During the COVID-19 Crisis, which “summarizes COVID-19’s impact on dentistry, emerging science on the disease, the ADA’s guidance for minimizing risk during emergency treatment and the resources the ADA has developed for dentists.”
